It's almost graduation Day

Hello!
Have not posted in a while. We are all gearing up for the BIG graduation this weekend. Yes, it is happening. After a few tense days/months with Sean's grades, he ultimately did pass all of this courses and will receive his high school diploma on Sunday. That will truly be a celebration as well as a huge collective sigh of relief! I have never figured out how to teach motivation to a child. Guess one either has it or does not. When the chips were down, Sean did what he had to do to to get a passing grade...but what a battle in the interim. At any rate, the stepfamily clan will gather to celebrate. We will be hosting a party for the immediate family....parents, stepparents....grandparents and aunts/uncles from both sides et al. I will say that the passage of time has seemingly healed any old wounds and both families comfortably come together to celebrate the children. I feel very fortunate and honestly do look forward to these milestones and gatherings. Ours is an unusual situation, but one that has been great for the children.
There are the usual struggles......I struggle as a stepmother. I struggle with the relationship I have with Madeline. She is very attached to her father which is why she chose to live in our home. Their relationship is precious. Unfortunately for Madeline.... I am part of that picture. She would like to have daddy all to herself and wishes her parents were still together. Not unusual at all...but often times difficult to navigate. There are days I think we have made significant progress....then other days when it is just plain impossible.
Jonathan's older daughter Jenna on the other hand has seemingly accepted the situation.....and I enjoy a comfortable relationship with her. At 16 however, she struggles with her dad and I try to smooth that over alot. Sadly she does not see him for the devoted caring father he is. She sees a man who is tough on her with expectations she cannot meet. Typical teenage stuff which only time can mend.

Wish us luck with the graduation. Did I mention that I am hosting a post-prom party for Sean? That should be fun with about 20 young people coming home from the prom for a midnight brunch. We will be chaperoning....and hope the teens behave properly.

Until next time,
Karen

A Modern Day Brady Bunch

I'm starting this blog for our big blended family....as well as our larger extended family.
Truth be told I am at a PR Bootcamp in NYC and learning how to do a blog which I can utlize on or company homepage. Little does our CEO know what is coming his way!!! Thought I'd better give it a whirl first before introducing it to the folks at corporate. Anyway, thought this would be a cool way for our family and friend to keep up with or crazy brood.....and at times it will be a grat way for us to keep up with each other. Jonathan and I have seven children between us.
I have three boys Sean Daniel and Liam (17, 13 and 10) Jonathan has two sons Will and Ben both in their 20's who we don't see a whole lot.......and Jenna 16 and Madeline 11. As you can imagine this is a pretty crazy household with LOTS of activity. Sean will be going to college in the fall (we hope!.....let's graduate first) and this wold be a good way to keep everyone updated on all the comings and goings.
I look forward to sharing our many adventures....and know the children will prove to be terrific bloggers as well.
